On the eve of the Russia-NATO board meeting, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg commented on the awful "humanitarian catastrophe in Syria."
According to him, NATO members agreed: military intervention in Syria will only strengthen the conflict.
"If every problem, every humanitarian catastrophe we will responded militarily, we will find ourselves in the world with even more war and suffering," Stoltenberg said in an interview with Bild.
He also said that NATO does not want escalation and the Cold War with Russia.
"The signal for the meeting of Council on Monday is that NATO does not want escalation, does not want the Cold War," Stoltenberg said.
NATO Secretary General said that he supports the extension of the EU sanctions against Russia, calling it a necessary response to the violation of international law.
According to him, issues of paramount importance for European security will be discussed at the meeting in Brussels. Stoltenberg put the Ukrainian conflict on the first place.
The meeting of Russia-NATO council is to be held on December 19.
