The military exercises of Russia and Belarus "West-2017" look like the preparations for a big war. This was stated by the Chairman of the Military Committee of NATO, General Petr Pavel, reports Delfi.

According to the general, the Alliance has stepped up its desire to restore military ties with Russia to avoid "unwanted potential incidents" during the maneuvers.

Despite Moscow's claims that "NATO is not considered an enemy" and that "the exercises are not directed against the alliance," the Czech general recalled that Russia did not comply with the established principle of maneuvering.

In Russia, it is claimed that about 12,700 servicemen take part in the exercises, however, according to Petr Pavel, from 70 to 100 thousand military personnel are involved in the "West-2017".

As reported in the Ministry of Defense of Belarus, according to the plan of the exercise, Belarus seeks to prevent unleashing of an armed conflict, destabilization of the situation in the region, and Russia provides political support, financial, military-technical and military assistance to it.
