National Anti-Corruption Bureau suspects ex-head of State Security Service with state treason

NABU, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine opened a criminal investigation on the state treason and espionage that could be possibly committed by Vasyl Hrytsak, the former chairman of the State Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). 

NABU said so in response to the request filed by the UNN news agency.

The anti-corruption agency reported that the case was opened under the decision of the court that obliged it to register the respective case.

Vasyl Hrytsak could also be charged with other crimes, specifically power abuse and embezzlement of state funds; however, the case was not opened. 

Ivan Bakanov replaced Vasyl Hrytsak as the SBU Chief in August 2019.
