In pursuance of the agreements between President Volodymyr Zelensky and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine and the German energy company RWE (Rheinisch-Westfälisches Elektrizitätswerk) signed a memorandum of cooperation in the hydrogen economy sector. This was reported by the presidential press service.
"This memorandum concerns cooperation in the field of the hydrogen economy. Naftogaz sees great prospects for Ukraine in this area. In particular, it concerns the production of green hydrogen - hydrogen, which is produced from renewable energy sources, as well as storage and consumption of hydrogen," said Yuriy Vitrenko, chairman of the board of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine.
In addition, according to him, this document opens up prospects for the export of "green" hydrogen to the European market, in particular to Germany. For this, both the existing network of gas pipelines and alternative means, in particular ships for the transportation of ammonia, can be used. The pilot project provides for the delivery by ships in the form of "green" ammonia.
It also envisages the possibility of commercial sale of Ukrainian "green" hydrogen in European markets, with a focus on existing markets. In addition, the memorandum provides opportunities for the development of renewable energy projects on the shelf and seashore.
The groups of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukrain" and RWE will begin joint work within the framework of the memorandum in September this year.
Tomorrow, on August 23, a meeting of the energy ministers of Ukraine, Germany and the United States will take place in Kyiv. They will discuss the issue of gas transit through Ukraine.
