The NABU, Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau is going to create a special unit for investigation of corruption-related cases in Ukraine’s Defense Ministry. Artem Sytnyk, the Bureau Director said this at a press briefing in Brussels on Tuesday, as quoted by UNIAN news agency.
‘We have recently recruited the staff of detectives; and we’re going to have a separate department, taking care of investigations into the Defense Ministry’s activities. This authority has a huge budget, the largest in the entire state, so there we’ve got to pay attention to these activities,’ Sytnyk said.
He added that detectives have been looking into the Ministry’s officials suspected in committing corruption-related violations.
Recently, National Anti-Corruption Bureau and Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office found out that Ministry of Defense used a corrupt scheme when contracting fuel and embezzled state funds for the amount of over 5,7 million USD. The scheme was busted, and several high-ranked officials involved in the corrupt activities were detained – including Deputy Defense Minister Ihor Pavlovsky.
