Andriy Kaluzhynsky, Head of the Main Detective Unit of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), involved in the corruption investigation in Ukroboronprom state concern, which supervises defense industry production facilities, has been suspended from the post. The DS reports this.
Kaluzhynskyi has been temporarily suspended from the leadership of NABU detectives. He continues doing his work, but the detectives do not obey him for now.
The suspension occurred after the conversation between Artem Sytnyk, the Director of NABU, and a co-father to Kaluzhynskyi, with U.S. Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch concerning the corruption scandal with NABU detectives in the Ukroboronprom case.
According to the source, Yovanovitch was outraged that detectives were involved in the scandal, so she called on Sytnyk to take measures.
The reason for such a reaction of the U.S. Ambassador was the publication of journalists' investigation on major embezzlement in the Ukrainian defense sector.
The journalists, who have been conducting their investigation for two years, stated that state defense facilities purchased the smuggled spare parts from private companies linked to the son of First Deputy Secretary of National Security and Defence Council Gladkovsky (Poroshenko's close associate) and his friends at highly inflated prices. Ukroboronprom state concern knew about the illegal origin of the smuggled parts but still agreed to buy them. Gladkovsky Junior’s two close associates Andriy Rohoza and former Ukroboronprom employee Vitaliy Zhukov helped him smuggle the spare parts from Russia, and, according to the journalists, they have illegally earned at least $9,2 million through three major private firms and straw firms, one of which belonged to Poroshenko – Kuznia na Rybalskomy (former Leninska Kuznia enterprise, located in Kyiv).
According to this investigation, Kaluzhynskyi personally knew one of the suspects Andriy Rohoza, and detectives, who obeyed Kaluzhynskyi, were friends with the businessmen involved in the Ukroboronprom case.
“Rohoza wished Kaluzhynskyi the happy New Year and accepted the greeting from his as well. Kaluzhynskyi's subordinates regularly communicate and meet with businessmen. In particular, the detectives of NABU, taking into account this correspondence (published by the journalists, - ed.), dealt with the exclusion of the company "Optimumspecpetail" from the list of companies with fictitiousness signs. In addition, from the correspondence we can conclude that businessmen presented detectives expensive gifts”, the report said.
