Oleg Sentsov, the famous Ukrainian filmmaker and political prisoner has been on a hunger strike for 49 days in a row. His counterpart Roman Bondarchuk mentioned this in his commentary during the International Film Festival in Karlovy Vary.
'I want to turn attention to Oleg, my colleague, who has been starving in Russian prison for 49 days now. We should remember him and another 60 political prisoners', he said as quoted by Radio Liberty.
Bondarchuk's film Volcano appeared on the program of the 53rd International Film Festival in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic.
As is known, Oleg Sentsov, the Ukrainian movie maker is now serving time under trumped-up charges with preparing terrorist acts in Crimea. The Russian court sentenced him to 20 years; Sentsov currently stays at the high-security penal colony in Labytnangi, northern Russia. He starves himself, demanding to release all Ukrainian political prisoners.
Earlier, Tatyana Moskalkova, Russian Commissioner for Human Rights, said health condition of Oleg Sentsov who is kept in Russian jail is generally satisfying, but there are still some concerns due to his hunger strike.
At the same time, the Russian Ombudsman added that Sentsov is being medically examined daily. The local medical worker checked his condition today in the morning.
It should be noted that the Russian and Ukrainian Ombudsmen arrived in the remand prison where Sentsov is kept, simultaneously. Yet, Lyudmyla Denisova came there earlier than her Russian colleague, but she was not allowed to visit Sentsov.
Denisova, a Ukrainian Commissioner for Human Rights, does not believe Moskalkova’s claims that Sentsov’s health condition is satisfactory.
On June 29, the lawyer of the political prisoner stated that Sentsov’s health state is stable.
