The winner in Ukraine’s presidential elections Volodymyr Zelensky understands how to reach peace in Donbas, however, his position is uncomfortable with Donetsk, Luhansk, and Moscow. Viktor Medvedchuk, the chairman of the political council of the Opposition Platform - For Life party said that on air of the Pulse TV show on the 112 Ukraine TV channel.

“Let's wait and see how Mr. Zelensky understands what is Minsk process, to what extent he understands what it means – the realization of Minsk agreement with peacemaking purpose. Though I have many doubts in this respect. Because of this, not his surrounding, Mr. Zelensky has personally given an interview to RBC two days before the elections. And when he was asked: “Do you support the special status of Donbas? It is written in Minsk agreement. Ukraine has to introduce these amendments into its Constitution. There’s the law on the special status of Donbas which was blocked by the Verkhovna Rada and the President.” So, here’s what he said: “No.” “Will you sign amnesty to the citizens of Ukraine who are on the separate districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions?” “No, I won’t sign it,” Medvedchuk reminded.

He also concluded that in case this standing of a newly-elected president doesn’t change, then the issue of settling peace in Donbas shall be suspended.

“I conclude that this means only one thing – if this standing preserves, then the issue of settling peace in Donbas shall be suspended for an incomprehensible period of time. Secondly, this means that he understands how peace can be reached. And I know it for sure that Donetsk, Luhansk won’t be comfortable with this position, and I believe that Moscow will not support him in this issue either. This is my viewpoint in this matter,” Medvedchuk said.

As it was reported earlier, Viktor Medvedchuk stated that his political force might cooperate with Volodymyr Zelensky only if he states for peace in Donbas and against tariff genocide.

“When I gave the interview for Financial Times, I definitely clearly answered the question that if Mr. Zelensky becomes a president and tries to establish peace and develop economy; I stated that if we see the real actions of Mr. Zelensky in peace issues and formation of economy, we will support such actions of Mr. Zelensky. I confirm it today. If such his actions, after his election as a president takes place, our party will support it, if it corresponds to the things, which are the program of our party that provides the peace plan on the settlement in Donbas and other issues of the changing of the situation in our state,” he said.
