Lawmakers of Russia, France and Germany are ready to resume the talks in the Normandy format. However, the Ukrainian Parliament currently ignores the initiative. Vyacheslav Volodin, the Speaker of the Russian Parliament said so as quoted by TASS.
According to the spokesman of the lower chamber of Russia's State Duma, it is ready to return to the dialogue with colleagues from France and Germany; so should Ukraine, Volodin said.
"As soon as the situation with the pandemic changes, we hope to bring up these issues and discuss them (...) with our colleagues from France and Germany. If Ukraine is going to live up to commitments according to its position in the Normandy Four, the Verkhovna Rada should join in, too", Volodin said.
The official praised the idea of the dialogue, first offered by Ukrainian parliamentarian Viktor Medvedchuk, the Chairman of Political Council of Opposition Platform-For Life party.
“At a meeting in St. Petersburg with Russian President Vladimir Putin, he proposed to create an inter-parliamentary dialogue in the Normandy format (Germany, Russia, Ukraine and France) on Donbas. Putin supported the initiative. In January, the Ukrainian parliamentarian met in the French Senate with lawmakers of the upper and lower houses of parliament, and then presented the Parliamentary dimension of the Normandy format in Germany before all major factions of the Bundestag,” TASS writes.
Earlier, Medvedchuk claimed that under current Ukrainian government, there will be no peaceful solution to Donbas conflict.
