More than 2,300 Ukrainians were detained, convicted in Russia in last three years, - Foreign Ministry

The consular service notes that it does not emphasize some particular political prisoners and does everything possible to defend the interests of each detainee

More than 2,000 Ukrainians were detained in Russia during the last three years. Representative of the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine Vasyl Kyrylych claimed this as LIGA.net reported.

"More than 2,300 citizens of Ukraine were detained or convicted in the Russian Federation during the last three years, he claimed.

Also, he specified that the consular service does not emphasize some particular political prisoners and does everything possible to defend the interests of each detainee.

Earlier we reported that since January 2018 until June 2018, 39,582 citizens of Ukraine were granted the Russian citizenship (it was accepted, restored or recognized).

It is specified that 30, 462 Ukrainians got the resident permits during this period of time. Moreover, the Ukrainian citizens got 38,709 temporary residence permits.

Since January 1, 2018, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine controls the functions of the biometric control for the foreigners from the risk-countries, particularly Russia, who aim to Ukraine.

The system of the recording of the biometric data for the citizens of 71 countries began to work on January 1, 2018. As we reported earlier the biometric control on Ukraine-Russia state border started working on December 27. The new system allows to check the duration of a person’s stay in Ukraine and is connected to the Interpol database.
