President of Moldova Igor Dodon held an official meeting with the head of the non-recognized Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic Vadim Krasnoselsky on January 4 in Bender. It was reported by Moldovan news edition NOI.md.
It was emphasized that Dodon and Krasnoselsky discussed many issues, however, did not touch the political, "status" issues. Such limitations on the agenda of negotiators were explained by reluctance to turn the residents of both banks into "hostages of politics"."
According to Igor Dodon, the primary duty of the authorities of Moldova and Transnistria is the creation of conditions in which the citizens would feel the improvement of their well-being, specific problems would be solved.
"Of course, there are complex issues, there are some different visions, but that does not mean that we should not sit down at the negotiating table to discuss and solve the problems of our citizens. As for the other, more complex issues, the time will pass, and on the basis of the results, which will be achieved now, we will find solution to them," Dodon said after the meeting.
Krasnoselsky also explained why they did not talk about politics. "We did not discuss political, status issues. We need to create conditions under which people would not be held hostages of the policy, and help to ensure that decisions taken by politicians were for the benefit of the people. We must respect the people of Transnistria and Moldova and find compromise in any case," the leader of self-proclaimed republic said.
It is noted that the meeting was intense, despite the absence of the political negotiations. They discussed issues related to the freedom of movement of the inhabitants of Transnistria, recognition of documents on education received in educational institutions of the Left Bank, regarding telecommunications and the establishment of railway communication between the two banks of the Dniester. According to the two interlocutors, economic issues play a very important role in the relations between Chisinau and Tiraspol.
