Moldova will not pay the debts of the unrecognized Transnistria for natural gas. This was stated by Moldovan President Igor Dodon, Ukrinform reports.

It is specified that the amount of debt is more than 6 billion dollars.

"Citizens of the Republic of Moldova will not pay Transnistria's debts for gas. When we engage in a political settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, it will be necessary to find a consensus," Dodon said.

Also Dodon expressed hope that next year Russia will lower the price of natural gas for Moldova.

The Moldovan president suggested that future decision could be the cancellation of debts, adding that this issue had already been discussed with the leadership of Russian Gazprom.

On May 30, Dodon stated that the announcement of five Russian diplomats in Moldova as persona non grata is an ’outrageous gesture’ on the part of the Moldovan government.
