EU representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Police and Vice-President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini after the two-day visit to Washington stated that America could lose position of the world leader, reports Die Welt.
“I have never seen the USA so polarized and divided, so much burdened by conflicts as today. However someone who wants to be a world leader has to be strong, confident and cohesive,” Mogherini said.
“If the world’s biggest democracy shows tension on such level, this can become a destabilizing factor for the whole world,” EU representative added.
Pragmatic relations might prevail between the USA and Europe in the future, according to her.
“We are facing a new stage in our relationship. We will have to knock round every topic to understand our similarities. But this is not a tragedy,” Mogherini said.
Earlier it was reported that EU is concerned about situation in Eastern Ukraine, according to Mogherini. The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy expects full implementation of Minsk agreement and the beginning of peaceful settlement process in Donbas.
