Missile strike on Damascus International Fair, August 2017
Syrian Observatory

Several people deceased due to the missile strike, which took place in the suburbs of Damascus. The tragedy took place on Sunday, Radio Liberty reports with reference to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

‘An explosion was heard in the Damascus International Fair in the southern part of Rif Dimashq province, and it turned out to be caused by the fall of a shell on an area at the entrance of the city where an exhibition has been held for days. The SOHR learned that the shell caused casualties as the death of at least 16 persons was reported but only 5 have been confirmed so far. The death toll is still likely to rise because some of the injured are in a critical condition,’ the NGO said.

Syrian state media confirmed that the explosion took place; however, no further details were specified – not even the number of victims.
