The ‘Croatian scenario’ is the only option for the Ukrainian government to return the occupied areas of Donbas. Yuriy Bereza, the Ukrainian MP from People’s Front party faction, said this while on air at 112 Ukraine TV channel.
‘The only way Ukraine can return its territories is ‘Croatian scenario’, and there are no other ways to do that; it could take from two to six months,’ he said.
According to Yuriy Bereza, Ukraine’s armed forces are capable of restoring control over 450 kilometers of the Ukraine-Russia state border. However, he added, Kyiv still has some diplomatic moves in its arsenal. ‘Let’s remember the Budapest memorandum…We can use it, use this option to restore the nuclear arsenal,’ the MP said.
The 'Croatian scenario' foresees gradual preparation, equipping and training of armed forces with subsequent restoration of control over the temporarily occupied territories – by conducting several military operations. This is what Croatia did to regain its territories from Serbia during the Yugoslavian wars of 1991-1995.
Earlier today, Bereza’s counterpart Nadiya Savchenko said that Donbas could be released by means of peace but that could only happen at the cost of losing Crimea.
