The local elections in Donbas that are currently prepared by the Russian mercenaries are not in line with the spirit of Minsk agreements. Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor said that at the joint press briefing with Ukrainian leader Petro Poroshenko.

'As for the division areas (in Donbas, - 112 International), we are jointly working on bringing the UN mission to reach the peace. It is also about the critical plans to hold the local elections, and these elections do not match the content of Minsk agreements. I know how tough it was to extend the special status in Donbas, but we're grateful to the parliamentarians for that. We have nothing except for the Minsk process, so it is very important that Ukraine lives up to its commitments, even if that's difficult', Merkel said.

She added that Germany will continue to support Ukraine's territorial integrity.

'I would like to confirm once again: the territorial integrity is the definite and essential thing; Ukraine still has to determine its way on its own', the Chancellor concluded.

President Poroshenko added that the election in the occupied areas of Donetsk and Luhansk region will have no legal consequences and they will not be recognized by the international community.
