Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel "discussed the situation of the convicted Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsov." He stated this on the eve of a press conference on the results of talks with Foreign Minister of Germany Heiko Maas, Tass reports.

According to Lavrov, the Sentsov issue was discussed by Putin and Merkel at a meeting in Mezeberg on August 18 and "deals with a purely humanitarian sphere."

"There are legislative procedures in the Russian Federation, which in this case are applicable... All those who are worried about his fate are aware of this," Lavrov stressed.

At the same time, he added that Russia "repeatedly publicly informed the public, including about Sentsov's health status."

Previously, Lavrov stressed that he was "under the constant supervision of doctors."

As you know, the Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsov, detained in May 2014 and convicted in the Russian Federation, on May 14, went on a hunger strike demanding the release of all Ukrainian political prisoners.

On August 18, Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel held talks in Berlin, the meeting lasted three hours and was held in closed session.

Later, Merkel informed the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko about the results of the talks with Putin, but the fact that the issue of Sentsov's fate was raised was not reported.
