“Concerning the Taliban, of course, we should talk to them because we keep terms with them,” Merkel underlined.
According to the German Chancellor, the dialogue with the far-right Taliban movement is necessary to continue evacuation from Afghanistan.
“We would like to take people out of the country who worked, in particular, for the German organizations tied with the development and who feal at threat,” Merkel added.
She underlined that such a dialogue will allow to continue the supply of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan. Meanwhile, the politician called a “good signal” the fact that the International Kabul Airport was opened recently for flights.
As we reported, the Taliban movement hopes to establish diplomatic relations with Germany. Besides, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid stated that the militants hoped for financial support, humanitarian aid, and cooperation in the fields of health, agriculture, and education from Germany and other countries.
