Angela Merkel's candidacy was officially nominated for the parliamentary elections at the regional congress of Christian Democratic Union, according to Spiegel. Elections will take place in September this year.

It is noted that during today's general meeting of the party in the lands of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania 95% of the delegates voted in favor of her candidacy.

Earlier Angela Merkel stated that operation of Normandy contact group should be continued until full ceasefire is reached in Donbas.

"Unfortunately, not al of the provisions of Minsk agreement are implemented, but the work is ongoing and we have to continue. We must reach extended ceasefire in Donbas," Merkel said.

"Minsk agreement is the only thing we have to continue dialogue and creating opportunities to solve problems. We should use what we have if there is no alternative. I still have a hope," she added.
