German Chancellor Angela Merkel held a bilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump during G7 summit in Italy; leaders discussed situation in Ukraine particularly. This was reported by Ukrinform.
"We have once again discussed the Ukrainian topic, the Minsk process, and also how we can work together effectively. I think we are developing good cooperation here," Merkel said to journalists on the results of the first day of summit.
German Chancellor generally characterized the atmosphere of the first summit day as "very constructive and honest".
In particular, she stressed the importance of adopting statement on fight against terrorism, as well as members’ unity regarding conflicts in Syria and Libya.
It is noteworthy that G7 summit is visited by current UK, US, Italian and French leaders for the first time.
Earlier it was reported that summit participants are also planning to discuss situation in Syria and North Korea.
Previously, U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Russia would not return to G7 line-up until Ukraine's sovereignty is restored.
