Russia destabilizes the situation in many republics of the former USSR. The German Chancellor claimed this to German servicemen deployed in Lithuania, DW.com reported.

'Basically, we see that almost all former Soviet republics, which are not the members of the EU and NATO are confronted with internal conflicts, caused by Russia,' she said. 

Today, these countries are engaged in the restoration of its territorial integrity, since Russia either divided their territories or heated up conflicts there, Merkel added. As for example, she called the situation in Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia, Moldova, and Azerbaijan.

Bundeswehr units situated in Baltic countries in terms of NATO mission need to contain the hybrid war waged by Russia. Cyber attacks are also the part of the war, Angela Merkel noted. 

A little over 4.5 thousand NATO soldiers and officers are deployed on the rotational basis in the Baltic countries and Poland.
