The Chairman of the Political Council of Opposition Platform - For Life Party and MP Viktor Medvedchuk is an experienced person whose constructive advice on establishing peace in Donbas has sense. Therefore, the Ukrainian government needs to listen to it. The Member of the European Parliament from France, General Secretary of the National Rally and the Vice-Chair of Identity and Democracy Political Group Nicolas Bay stated this commenting on the open letter of Viktor Medvedchuk to Volodymyr Zelensky.

He stressed that Viktor Medvedchuk’s approach to the issue of establishing peace in Donbas corresponds to the interests of Ukraine and this is the path to national reconciliation.

“The peace process that he introduced to the European Parliament over a year ago was a smart proposal that protects the basic interests of Ukraine and allows it to get out of the way of military conflict and tension with Russia. Of course, the Ukrainian government is free in its actions. But it seems to me that it should pay special attention to Medvedchuk’s approach,” the MEP said.

In his opinion, the approaches proposed by Viktor Medvedchuk to parliamentary diplomacy help to establish a dialogue between Europe, Ukraine and Russia.

“I think that for many parliamentarians from different European countries it will be useful to understand that they cannot ignore the situation in Ukraine and European countries should not demand that Ukraine continue the conflict with Russia. This harms all our countries on the world arena... But the preliminary stage is to establish a dialogue, and I believe that parliamentary diplomacy is one of the means of setting up such a dialogue. I really do not know what relations are like between Viktor Medvedchuk and President Zelensky and with the government. But I believe that the Ukrainian government should heed the voice of common sense expressed by Mr. Medvedchuk. He is an experienced person, competent, a person of dialogue,” the European parliamentarian added.
