Freedom of speech together with free elections are the foundation of real democracy. John Tennant, British politician, Brexit Party Member of the European Parliament said in Brussels.

“Freedom of speech together with free elections are two foundations of the real democracy and stable society, it is a supporting pillar of the Western community…In Britain, this is not even debatable. It feels funny for me to agree on something with Liberal Democrats, but I do agree with my colleague from the Liberal Party that freedom of speech must not be restricted under any pretext,” he said.

At the same time, Mr. Tennant believes it is sad that there are countries that do not allow realizing the right for freedom of expression to a full extent.

“At the same time, I believe that is very-very sad that in the 21st century there are still countries, including in Europe that do not allow realizing the right for freedom of expression to full extent. And they think that they have a right to restrict the right of people to express their opinion and the right to receive any information they deem necessary. The freedom, of speech and free elections, are two foundations of the real democracy and stable society, it is a supporting pillar of the Western community.” The MEP said.

Earlier, the MEP of the Liberal Democratic Party of Great Britain Caroline Voaden noted that Ukrainian journalists worked under the conditions of very high pressure and tension.
