Melissa O’Rourke will be a new ambassador of Australia to Ukraine. It is reported in the statement of Julie Bishop, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Australia.
O'Rourke is the career diplomat. She worked in the Australian embassies in Brussels, Bangkok and was the minister counselor of Australia in Moscow.
‘Australia is the strong supporter of the sovereignty of Ukraine and territorial integrity of Ukraine. We cooperate closely on issues connected with the investigation of the crash of the Malaysia Flight MH 17’, the message reports.
According to Julie Bishop, Australia and Ukraine share the common interest towards peace and safety in the world, working within the Global coalition against ISIS. Moreover, the countries have the common economic interests that continue to develop. 'We cooperated closely during our lifespan in the United Nations Security Council and jointly provided the personnel for the UN peacekeeping missions in South Sudan and Cyprus and to stabilize Afghanistan under the direction of NATO’, the minister said.
According to the Australian Minister of Foreign Affairs, the experience and competency of the new Australian Ambassador will strengthen and develop the bilateral relations between the countries. It is expected, that Mellissa O’Rourke will assume to the office as the Ambassador of Australia to Ukraine in September 2017.
