Russian lawyer Nikolai Polozov claims that Russian law enforcement agencies want to officially recognize the Mejlis of Crimean Tatars as a terrorist organization in Russia. He said so on air of Hromadske Radio, Ukraine's public radio broadcaster.
According to him, such conclusion could be assumed after the recent searches among the Mejlis members in the occupied Crimea, and the arrest of Nariman Dzhelyalov, the Deputy Head of the Mejlis.
Prevoiusly, the "saboteur cases" did not concern Crimean Tatars, and this is the first such case (the case of Nariman Dzhelyalov - 112 International). Besides, such case was never tied to the Mejlis. I do not rule out that Russian law enforcers have far-reaching plans, including these to recognize the Mejlis not only extremist, but also terrorist organization. And it's a big plan to extend the oppressive actions against Crimean Tatars who had connections with Mejlis - on a local or regional level. It's about hundreds and thousands of people who are now under attack", Polozov said.
Earlier, the court of occupied Simferopol decided to arrest Nariman Dzhelyalov, the Deputy Head of Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people. The official will remain behind the bars for the next two months. Crimean Solidarity human rights protection group reported that on September 6.
