Moscow expects concrete results from the meeting of the presidents of Russia and the United States - Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, preparations for which are currently under way. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov in an interview with one of the Russian TV channels.
"You see, both we and the Americans need the meeting, as I understand it, not to make an external effect on someone and say:" Well, the sensation, they talked for so long, finally took place, "Lavrov said.
He added that Putin and Trump are going to meet not only to shake hands and share the views on how they assess relations with each other and talk about international problems.
"Russia and the United States have such a strong influence on international stability and security that they will certainly expect concrete results from this meeting, and to achieve this the meeting should be prepared properly," the Russian Foreign Minister said.
According to Lavrov, Trump is determined to continue efforts to normalize relations with Russia "in the common interest." And Moscow is oriented towards this, he noted.
We recall, on May 2, Putin and Trump on the phone discussed the prospects for coordinating actions in the fight against terrorism.
