The team of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, like the team of ex-president Petro Poroshenko, does nothing to bring Crimea back. Viktor Medvedchuk, Ukraine's MP and the head of the political council of the "Opposition Platform - For Life" party, said that on the sidelines of the Verkhovna Rada.
“Mr. Prime Minister needs to know that there is no water problem in Crimea and there never has been any, due to the fact that the North Crimean Canal was blocked. But there are problems in the Kherson region because the environmental situation worsens every year because of the desalination of the coasts and territories due to the passing through the North Crimean canal. Thus if we compare, who is in more need of this water passing through this channel and of restoring water supply, this will be Ukraine, in the first place," Medvedchuk said.
"For Ukraine, it is necessary to change the environmental situation, and for Ukraine, it is necessary that the slogans that Crimea is Ukraine and Ukrainians live in Crimea should be given a concrete substance. But the new government (we were absolutely against it and we voted against this government) is a government that, as you know, as the new Prime Minister of Ukraine declared, will continue the course of the previous government. That’s all said, and I already said that this is an even-steven transaction.
Moreover, no changes will take place, given that they are not going to radically change the course of economic and social development.
As it was reported, prior to 2014, the North Crimean Channel provided about 85% of the needs of Crimean residents in water supply, the channel linked Ukraine's mainland with the peninsula. But after the Russian annexation of Crimea, Ukraine cut off water supplies.
