The Ukrainian nation has no mechanism to act as the only source of power in this country, although the Constitution of Ukraine guarantees this right. This is why Ukraine needs a law on the referendum to be considered and approved. Viktor Medvedchuk, the Chairman of the Political Council of Opposition Platform – For Life said so in an evening show at 112 Ukraine TV channel.

"Article 5 of the Constitution of Ukraine foresees that the only source of authority in the country is the Ukrainian people; however, this source of power currently has no mechanisms of bringing it to life. In 2012, when we were known as the Ukrainian Choice, a civil movement, we developed such a draft bill. As a faction, we submitted it [for consideration of the Parliament] on August 29", he said.

At that, the MP added that neither this bill not any other relevant documents are considered in the Parliament now. "So, these are mere talks; they say "We'll hold the referendum later; the law on the referendum will be approved later, too... but now we have to sell the land because the IMF demands so. It is a demand of those who act in the interests of foreign management in the country. One cannot let it happen", Medvedchuk said.
