All Russian gas, with great benefit for our country, could go to Europe via the Ukrainian GTS, but we were bypassed by gas pipelines from both the north and the south. This is what the reckless, unprofessional, useless Ukrainian government has been striving for all these years. This was stated by the Chairman of Political Council of Opposition Platform - For Life, MP Viktor Medvedchuk in an interview with UkrLive TV channel.

"That is, all the gas could easily go from Russia to Europe via the gas transportation system with great benefit for Ukraine. But during this time they built a new gas transmission corridor, Nord Stream 2 and Nord Stream 1, Turkish Stream, Balkan Stream, which comes from Russia. That is, they bypassed the gas transportation routes of Ukraine from the north and south. That is, gas routes bypassed Ukraine from the north and from the south. This is what the reckless, unprofessional, useless Ukrainian government has been striving for all these years. Not only, for the sake of objectivity, I must say, this is happening under Zelensky. Basically, this happened under Yushchenko, and under Yanukovych, and under Poroshenko, and, unfortunately, it continues under Zelensky," the politician said.

Medvedchuk clarified that, of course, Ukraine currently has a contract with Russia for gas transit until 2024, and this is how it provided itself both in terms of prices and volume.

"That is, now Russia has to pump or pay 40 billion annually, if there is no such pumping. But if they do not launch Nord Stream-2, the volume of gas in Europe will decrease, and the blow will be inflicted on sparrows in Europe, because that sparrows in Europe, well, we speak figuratively to you, yes, they consume gas and need increase in consumption of this gas," he said.

If for some reason the volumes of gas supplies to Europe decrease or stop, then, according to Viktor Medvedchuk, prices on the spot markets, the volumes that are growing for sale on the spot market in Europe will increase.

“Now there are about 1,100 dollars on average - so they will grow, say, up to two thousand, two and a half thousand dollars per thousand cubic meters. Tell me, which sparrows will be hit? I think the answer is obvious,” he said.

Among other things, Viktor Medvedchuk stressed that when the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline is launched at full capacity, the economic attractiveness of gas transit through our gas transmission system will decrease.

Earlier, MP from Opposition Platform - For Life  Renat Kuzmin claimed that the State Bureau of Investigations summoned Medvedchuk - allegedly for him to look into materials of the already closed case on the state treason and violation of the rules and customs of war. At the same time, Kuzmin said, representatives of the Office of Prosecutor General of Ukraine attempted to hand the politician a new suspicion of state treason and aiding terrorism. However, Medvedchuk's lawyers did not let the prosecutors do that, breaking the law.

On October 8, Office of Prosecutor General and SBU pressed new charges against Viktor Medvedchuk suspecting him in state treason and aiding terrorism. The new charges relate to the disruption of coal supplies to Ukraine from South Africa and the facilitation of fuel supplies from the occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions in 2014..

As it was reported, in the first criminal case, Pechersk District Court decided to extend the house arrest for another 2 months, until October 31.

On February 20, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council on sanctions against 8 individuals and 19 legal entities. Among them are three Ukrainian citizens - the politician Viktor Medvedchuk and his wife Oksana Marchenko.

On May 13, Kyiv court chose the restriction measure for Viktor Medvedchuk, the opposition MP and Chairman of the Political Council of Opposition Platform - For Life party. On July 9, the court extended the house arrest of Viktor Medvedchuk until September 7. The lawyers of the politician stated about the recusal of the judge Serhiy Vovk right after the end of the court session. However, the court declined the appeal on recusal of the judge and prosecutor. On July 30, the Kyiv Court of Appeal refused to satisfy the appeal op the lawyers of Chairman of the Political Council of the Opposition Platform - For Life Viktor Medvedchuk against the extension of the politician's house arrest until September 7.

The Opposition Platform - For Life responded to this legal arbitrariness, stressing that the political persecution of MP Taras Kozak has only one purpose: reprisals against independent media, 112 Ukraine, NewsOne and ZIK TV channels, and the destruction of freedom of speech in Ukraine.

Commenting on the situation, Viktor Medvedchuk emphasized that his lawyers were fully prepared to appeal against the measure of restraint and they have evidence that refutes the prosecution's accusation and prove the illegality of applying house arrest to him.

Thus, the defense filed an appeal against the decision of the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv on extension of the measure of restraint for the politician. However, on July 30, the Kyiv Court of Appeal denied it, despite the defeat of all the arguments of the prosecution.

Over the past four months, the world media, European politicians, and experts have published 114,853 materials on the persecution of the opposition and independent TV channels by the Ukrainian authorities.
