Chairman of the Political Council of the Opposition Platform - For Life Party Viktor Medvedchuk spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin he presented the concept of peace plan in the European Parliament on July 17. The meeting between Medvedchuk and Putin took place in St. Petersburg on July 18.
“All this was followed by the will and determination of the European Parliamentarians to help bring peace in Ukraine, and stop the fighting in the south-east of my country. And this interest, I would say, was not artificial, there was a sincere and productive conversation. And most importantly, it was pointed out by the MEPs that it was a moment when we ended the monopoly of the party of war during the office of Mr. Poroshenko to provide there information on the situation in Ukraine. This monopoly is over because yesterday MEPs heard the point of view of the rest of Ukraine, the point of view of the party of peace, the point of view about how today it is necessary to act in order to make peace,” Medvedchuk said.
He also noted that reaction of the MEPs had inspired him.
“Many people in the newly elected European Parliament are not only interested and not just know the situation, but even know the history of Ukraine. It impressed me when they presented me and what I was going to talk about, they mentioned such historical facts, which, I think, not every Ukrainian citizen would know. The representatives of France and Great Britain drew parallels. And this is a very important point, I believe that this is a big serious step on the way to peace in Ukraine,” Viktor Medvedchuk summed up.
