The prosecution in the case of Viktor Medvedchuk, Chairman of Political Council of Opposition Platform - For Life Party, did not provide sufficient evidence formed on the basis of the suspicion. The opposition politician told reporters about this before the court session, during which the appeal against the decision to extend his term of house arrest is to be considered.
Medvedchuk stressed that there are no legal grounds for extending the measure of restraint in the form of house arrest.
“My team of lawyers and I will really pay attention to this and raise the issue of canceling the preventive measure, its extension elected by the judge. We believe that this was done illegally, as there are not enough arguments in favor of the fact that the measure of restraint, like the materials of suspicion, are unconfirmed. Therefore, there are no legal grounds not only to elect, but also to continue the measure of restraint in the form of house arrest. We argued the position that since the beginning of the criminal proceedings against me, since March 11, the prosecution did not provide evidence of those charges that are indicated in the materials of the suspicion. Therefore, there is no reason to apply a preventive measure. Moreover, my lawyers did a tremendous job aimed at collecting evidence that completely refutes the accusations from the prosecutor's office. This issue will be raised in the appellate instance in order to cancel the illegally applied preventive measure against me," the politician added.
