The age of poverty continues. This is how Chairman of the Political Council of Opposition Platform - For Life Party, MP Viktor Medvedchuk commented on the draft state budget for 2020 presented by the government.
"Unfortunately, the era of poverty the authorities came with and occupied the main offices in the country, the era they promised to end - this era of poverty - is ongoing. The budget, which will now be considered in the second reading, is no different from the budgets of 14-18 years. Moreover, it is an antisocial budget, it is a budget that is not aimed at providing our citizens with the social guarantees and rights stated in the Constitution," he said.
Medvedchuk recalled that the draft budget envisages an increase of the subsistence minimum in the amount of less than 2 dollars.
"Our faction proposed an alternative budget. We proposed to amend and increase the expenditure by 10,2 billion dollars, 8,2 billion of which, we believed, had to go for the implementation of social programs. That is, to ensure the rights and social character guarantees for the citizens of Ukraine. Naturally, it applies to our retirees as well. However, it was not approved," he recalled.
Medvedchuk explained that his political strength was based on the fact that Ukraine could increase its GDP and the revenue side of the budget by 2.5-3%.
"The budget they are going to adopt today - of course, our faction will not support it, precisely because it is an antisocial budget. This budget is not aimed at either implementing social programs or developing the economy," he stressed.
Medvedchuk stressed that the growth projected in the draft budget 2020 is the growth that determines stagnation, not economic development.
"None of the industries has received support; in the stagnant conditions there are industries such as shipbuilding, the aviation industry, and many others, which should have been the main mechanism that could lay the foundation for the country's economic development for the next year, 2020," Medvedchuk concluded.
As we reported earlier, the Verkhovna Rada supported the draft state budget for 2020 #2000 as the basis ,112 Ukraine TV Channel reported.
The document was presented by MP from the Servant of the People, Deputy Head of Budget Committee Oleksandr Trukhin. According to him, the committee processed 2.176 offers from the lawmakers but not all of them were grounded.
