When participants in a song contest are chosen for political expediency, this is discrimination, says Viktor Medvedchuk, chairman of the Political Party Opposition Platform - For Life. The opposition politician commented on the scandal in Ukrainian national selection for Eurovision 2019.
"If the scenario of the Ukrainian selection for Eurovision 2019 was written by Franz Kafka and George Orwell, they would not have been able to create a more absurd, living and infuriating to the depths of hearts story of the totalitarian unanimity of Kyiv authorities. It’s a criminal power, which uses the dirtiest methods (fraud, administrative resource, persecution of people who think differently) to take down their adversary. The system that the authorities created and their hangers-on - from Vice Prime Minister Kyrylenko to the “minions” of power: the half-fired head of National Public Broadcasting Company of Ukraine Zurab Alasania, judges and journalists inciting hatred,” Medvedchuk said.
In his opinion, the new selection criteria for Eurovision are "the brightest manifestation of the ideology of "predatory nationalism" in Ukraine in its most primitive, most flawed form." When participants in a vocal competition are chosen, guided not by the opinion of millions of Ukrainians, but by political expediency, this is not even censorship, but real discrimination, Medvedchuk claims.
“Obviously, the pseudo-patriotic experiences with GreenJolly and MELOVIN have not taught our pro-Western activists nothing — today they are making the same mistake. Over the years of European reforms, discrimination has generally become a hallmark of post-Maidan policy. Poisonous Russophobia manifests itself in all spheres - education, language politics, church matters ... The authorities restrict the rights of those who speak the wrong language, go to the wrong church, support the wrong "civilization choice" ... It is not surprising that even the owners of this government from Washington have become tired from the “Ukrainian question,” and shy away from the Ukrainian politicians who profess nationalist ideas, as if they were lepers,” Viktor Medvedchuk said.
Earlier we reported that singer Anna Korsun (Maruv) will not present Ukraine at the song contest “Eurovision 2019.” Maruv said that she was forced to refuse from the participation in the contest from Ukraine due to her tour in Russia.
Earlier, Maruv won at the Ukrainian national selection for Eurovision and was to perform with Siren Song in the first semi-final of the Eurovision, which will take place on May 14. Her performance was planned for the second half of the show.
