If the authorities decided to produce the Sputnik V vaccine in Ukraine, then the mass vaccination of Ukrainians with a domestically produced vaccine would begin in May-June 2021. Chairman of the Political Council of Opposition Platform - For Life party Viktor Medvedchuk said this in an interview.
He reminded that on December 8, it was decided that the production of the Sputnik V vaccine could be organized in Ukraine, and technologies and raw materials in the form of a cell line were transferred.
“Production could begin in May-early June 2021. It was from that time that mass vaccination of Ukrainian citizens could have started. What does mass vaccination mean? This means that people would start to get out of the restrictions that were introduced by quarantines, various lockdowns and many other measures that were introduced by the government, President Zelensky, thoughtlessly, in conditions of chaos, with a lack of understanding of what they are doing and what will be the consequences. We would have been able to protect ourselves, starting from May 21, restore the economy, ensure real content in the social sphere,” the politician said.
Viktor Medvedchuk stressed that having the basis for mass vaccination Ukraine could follow the path of purchasing other vaccines.
“It would not be about production, but the purchase, in order to end mass vaccination as soon as possible and provide the country with a normal standard of living and functioning. The fact that the government did not do this means that it should be held responsible for these criminal actions against the health and life of Ukrainian citizens,” the politician summed up.
Earlier, on October 6, Viktor Medvedchuk met with the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and raised an issue of supplying the Sputnik V vaccine, developed by the Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology, to Ukraine to protect the life and health of Ukrainian citizens. In early November, Viktor Medvedchuk held another meeting with the President of the Russian Federation V. Putin, where he voiced a request to produce the Sputnik V vaccine (confirmed efficiency of which is 95%) in Ukraine.
Upon the results of the meeting with the Director of the Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology Alexander Gintsburg and Chief Executive Officer of Russian Direct Investment Fund \Kirill Dmitriev, Viktor Medvedchuk said that the production of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine against the coronavirus in Ukraine is possible at Kharkiv BioLek plant.
However, the question of how soon the vaccine production could be launched in our country depends only on the Ukrainian authorities.
“Naturally, the question here lies only with the Ukrainian authorities, when the corresponding application will be submitted for registration, and the desire of the Ukrainian authorities to provide it to Ukrainian citizens today,” Medvedchuk noted.
In its turn, BioLek enterprise announced its readiness to produce a vaccine against coronavirus. Today in Ukraine it is possible to produce 700,000 doses of coronavirus vaccine per month.
