The chairman of the political council of the "Opposition platform - For Life" party Viktor Medvedchuk believes that peace in Donbas will not be achieved as long as there is uncertainty in solving the cardinal issues that lead to it. He stated this on the air of 112 Ukraine TV channel.
"I believe that there is one reason: uncertainty in resolving cardinal issues that lead to peace. Cardinal issues written and approved by the Minsk agreements. If you followed this path, if you showed that both Ukraine and these unrecognized associations are going to coordinate issues, real coordination, and evidenced that this will turn into a practical plane, I think that the situation would change. But this situation did not reach this level. And if it did not reach the level, this causes uncertainty", he noted.
At the same time, Medvedchuk added that there are many other reasons that impede the establishment of peace in the east.
“There are a lot of other reasons. For example, that party accuses the Ukrainian armed forces of the fact that there are nationalists somewhere who violate the ceasefire. ”We don’t know how true this is. Our side says that there are no such cases, and vice versa, the militants on the other side violate the ceasefire and engage in unauthorized attacks and violations, including of those declared truces. It is possible to understand this all, but if we don’t move along the path to peace, if we don’t move specifically, letting know and asserting the peace that is recorded in the Minsk agreements, we will not achieve anything today. Now the harvest truce is announced. This morning I watched the news - one person was injured. A few days ago, unfortunately, someone died. Fighting continues. Of course, not in that volume, and thank God. But ... nothing in terms of ensuring that the ceasefire is in effect, and it is constantly stable,” Medvedchuk stated.
