The lifting of the economic blockade from Donbas could increase GDP by 2.6%. The Chairman of the Political Council of the Opposition Platform - For Life Party and MP Viktor Medvedchuk said this to the reporters of 112 Ukraine TV channel.
“When budget 2020 was being adopted way before the coronavirus and pandemic was announced by the World Health Organization, we proposed that we need to increase the GDP through processes that could to give an impetus to the development of our economy, and attract investments, not on paper or declarations, as the previous Prime Minister Honcharuk did, and how current Prime Minister Shmygal does, but to actually make investments come to the country. And in order to do so, we need to change the law, it is necessary to complete the judicial reform, and protect these investments. And for this it is necessary to lift the economic blockade of the Donbas, which will bring from 2 to 2.6% of the GDP, according to the experts. So, it is necessary to restore favorable economic relations,” he said.
“Not to have politically acceptable relations, for example, with the EU, relations with which have destroyed the Ukrainian economy over the past 5 years, but to build relations with the Asia-Pacific region and missions of various countries, restore relations with the Russian Federation, with the CIS countries where our economic relations today can give results and where our export is taken well, where they need our products, where we can really make money,” the MP concluded.
Viktor Medvedchuk has consistently advocated restoration of peace in Donbas. It was he who proposed the idea of inter-parliamentary dialogue in the Normandy format. Medvedchuk also headed the inter-factional parliamentary association in the Verkhovna Rada “Inter-Parliamentary Dialogue for Peace: Ukraine - Russia - Germany – France”. It should help to attract the parliaments of the countries of the Normandy format to resolve the conflict in the Donbas.
