The procedure of impeachment to the president was defined in the Constitution of Ukraine. The chairman of the political council of the Opposition Platform - For Life Viktor Medvedchuk said this on air of 112 Ukraine TV channel.
“I think there is an element of deceit here, but deceit is the result of the lack of professionalism of our esteemed “lawmakers” who enjoy the trust of 5% of the population concerning that we need the law on impeachment to the president," he said.
“I believe that this is a priority task - to resolve the issue of impeachment procedure. Only a lot of our MPs who speak about this do not know that it is regulated, and not only by Article 111 of the Constitution of Ukraine, it is regulated by the law referred to in Article 111. This law is the Rules of Procedure of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. When the Verkhovna Rada approved this law, there was no legislative approval of the regulation and there was no normative approval in this law, which then approved the rules of the Verkhovna Rada, of the part related to the procedure of impeachment. And today there is an article of the Constitution, which provides for the procedure and grounds for impeachment, is a section in a currently enforced Law On the Rules of Procedure of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine,” he added.
As it was reported earlier, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that the law on impeachment should be adopted so that the president could be held liable in case of violation of the law or committing a crime. He argues that he is ready to discuss this law and adopt an "objective, balanced and compromise version."
