Germany and France should assess the actions of the Ukrainian authorities, which are aimed at resolving the situation in Donbas and ending hostilities, which have been going on for the seventh year as Chairman of Political Council of Opposition Platform - For Life, MP Viktor Medvedchuk said during the meeting with Maximilian Krah, member of the European Parliament, Peter Pystron, the member of the Bundestag's Committee for Foreign Policy and Ulrich Singer, the German Senator and member of the Committee for International Cooperation of the German Landtag.
The politician noted that it is Germany that is the leading country in the European Union. Moreover, since 2014 it has been a member of the Normandy format. Medvedchuk argues that the topic of Donbas is relevant in Germany.
"In order to understand the nature of all this (the conflict in Donbas, - ed.), and there, unfortunately, it cannot be resolved for seven years already, the nature of the conflict, the nature of the confrontation on the territory of Ukraine, it is necessary to assess the actions of the authorities that it is doing today the way it is doing, " Viktor Medvedchuk said.
The MP is sure that the current actions of the Ukrainian authorities do not inspire hopes for the establishment of peace.
“Unfortunately, I objectively assessed these circumstances, because since 2014 I have been in control of the situation that has developed. And I said, underlined that what is happening today in Ukraine, unfortunately, does not inspire hope that the leadership of Ukraine - Mr. Zelensky, his team has the political will to establish peace. Unfortunately, after this team came to power in the issue of peace, Ukraine did not advance and this is the most important thing,” Viktor Medvedchuk added.
Medvedchuk said that in his opinion, it is the current government that is incompetent and unprepared to govern the country.
As you know, the meeting was attended by: Maximilian Krah, a member of the European Parliament, Peter Pystron, a member of the Bundestag's Committee for Foreign Policy, and Ulrich Singer, the German Senator and member of the Committee for International Cooperation of the German Landtag.
We remind that representatives of occupied Donbas stated that they intend to conduct further negotiations only with Chairman of Political Council of Opposition Platform - For Life, MP Viktor Medvedchuk.
The authorities of occupied Donbas were ready at the beginning of the year to unilaterally return four women to Ukraine, whose release Viktor Medvedchuk had agreed to. Natalya Stetsenko, Natalya Savchenko, Kateryna Kotenko and Svitlana Dovhal have been in their prisons for several years on charges of espionage. As early as January 20, they could have been at home. However, the authorities in fact blocked this process, and women, some of whom are seriously ill, are still behind bars. Since the beginning of the armed conflict in Donbas, thanks to Viktor Medvedchuk, 493 Ukrainians have returned home from occupied Donbas, and more than 1,500 Ukrainians have been released by the politician.
