An interfaction union called "Interparliamentary dialogue for peace: Ukraine-Russia-Germany-France" has been created in the Ukrainian Parliament. The initiative belongs to the Opposition Platform - For Life party; the leader of the newly created union will be Viktor Medvedchuk, the MP and the Chairman of the Political Council of Opposition Platform - For Life.
"A peaceful Ukraine today is our No.1 task. Without its decision, without the stoppage of military actions, no further development of the country is possible", reads the statement of the newly created union. "The Normandy format involving Ukraine, Russia, Germany and France is the main playground in terms of implementation of Minsk agreements, keeping the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state, stopping the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine".
The statement goes on: "An interparliamentary dialogue (...) can and should be, first of all, the effective mechanism of reaching peace in Ukraine. Because according to the agreements made in Minsk, Ukraine took upon itself the commitment to conduct the constitution reform, which foresees decentralization as a key element (taking into account the peculiarities of certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, which is adjusted with the representatives of these areas), as well as adoption of permanent legal frameworks regarding the special status of separate areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions".
