A Ukrainian MP, in accordance with Article 17 of the Law "On the Status of the People's Deputy", has the right to enter into negotiating relations with representatives of other states, officials of other states in the interests of Ukrainian citizens and Ukraine without the special powers provided by the Verkhovna Rada. This was stated by the Chairman of the political council of the Opposition Platform - For Life political party, MP Viktor Medvedchuk, commenting on the recent statements of Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksiy Danilov.
The politician stressed that an application for the opening of criminal proceedings against Danilov would be filed in the coming days.
"Again, it proves this person's limitations, I talk about Mr. Danilov, because he does not just give assessments, he is still the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, he does not say that he is just a citizen of Ukraine, he also represents a serious department, which is headed by President of Ukraine Zelensky, and makes such primitive, stupid statements. I want to remind him and all other intellectuals who discuss this topic that, according to Article 17 of the Law 'On the Status of People's Deputies', a Ukrainian MP has the right to enter into negotiations with representatives of other states, with officials of other states in the interests of the citizens of Ukraine and in the interests of Ukraine without the special powers provided by the Verkhovna Rada," Medvedchuk said.
According to the politician, this is exactly what he did when he entered into negotiations on lowering the price of gas for Ukraine, on the issue of the exchange of prisoners, on the issue of sanctions, and on the supply of coronavirus vaccine.
"This is exactly what I do when I enter into negotiations on reducing the price of gas for Ukraine, this is exactly what I have been doing for several years with the exchange of more than 500 people, and more than 1,000 people on both sides, in the interests of Ukraine, this is exactly what I did when I negotiated on lifting sanctions on Ukrainian enterprises, the purchase of the vaccine, and its production. I have the full right to do it under the Law 'On the Status of People's Deputies'," the politician added.
Medvedchuk reminded Danilov that no one, no state body or official had the right to interfere with the activities of an MP in accordance with Article 26 of of the Law "On the Status of the People's Deputy".
"I see signs of a crime under Articles 344, 351 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine in his actions regarding such statements. In the coming days, an application for the opening of criminal proceedings against Danilov will be filed. It will make him think when he opens his mouth next time, when he speaks, taking into account the position he accidentally holds," he added.
