Chairman of the Political Council of the Opposition Platform - For Life Party, MP Viktor Medvedchuk commented on the escalation of the situation in Donbas, as NEWSONE reported.

“Any aggravation, any escalation is the evidence that we have no progress towards peace. If you remember not only Minsk Agreements but Paris communiqué dated December 9, it was established and confirmed by the head of the states-members of Normandy Format that ‘stable, constant ceasefire regime’ should be established until the end of the year,” Medvedchuk reminded.

According to the opposition politician, the question arose why this ceasefire regime was not established on a stable basis until January 1.

“Today is mid of February and there is no ceasefire. According to OSCE SMM reports, the attacks from both sides of the contact line observed, from the side of Ukraine and from the side of the unrecognized republics. And it is a great amount, hundreds of attacks during the last week. We hear and read such OSCE reports every day,” he noted.

Medvedchuk underlined that it is necessary to follow the way of fulfillment of Minsk Agreements and ‘on the way of fulfillment of the agreements of last, meeting of Normandy Format to stop the fire and proceed to the implementation of other issues: preparation of elections, adoption of the law on the elections and implementation of Steinmeier formula into Ukrainian legislation’.

“Until these steps are made, I think that different cases, which, unfortunately, took place today and reported by Ukrainian mass media; they, unfortunately, will take place and there will be a ground for such actions,” Medvedchuk concluded.

Earlier Medvedchuk stated that if the policy of Mr. Zelensky and his team on peaceful settlement in Donbas doesn't change, there will be no peace in Ukraine and in Donbas.
