The reaction of Ukrainian authorities on the talks held by the Chairman of the Political Council of the Opposition platform - For Life Viktor Medvedchuk and founder of the party Yuriy Boyko with the leadership of Russian government and Gazprom regarding the resumption of direct gas purchases from Russia was rather turbulent and followed by the opening of criminal cases. However, the party leadership does not pay attention to it and will continue to act in the interests of the Ukrainian people. Viktor Medvedchuk stated this at a meeting with head of Gazprom Alexey Miller in St. Petersburg, where the issue of gas prices in Ukraine was discussed.

“The reaction to this meeting in Ukraine was intense, on both sides at that. On the part of the authorities, it was an emotional negative reaction, because the next day, Mr. President, then Poroshenko, in political convulsions, in agony, began to explain the essence of our meeting and talked not about the discounts that Gazprom could give, but he was telling where and who went, which negotiations would be held. The Cabinet made a show where the Mr. Prosecutor General took word jumping out of his pants and he opened criminal cases concerning our direct flight to Moscow with Yuriy Boyko. Any flights to Russia were forbidden, although previously the flight permits were granted, they filed a lawsuit against aviation services. Moreover, within the framework of a criminal case that was opened earlier, the SBU ordered an expert examination of all the statements from our talks, of I and Mr. Boyko talked about, but this is all nonsense. In the end, we don’t care about it,” Viktor Medvedchuk said.

According to him, the promised discounts of up to 25% on gas for Ukraine under the condition of direct purchases, which were confirmed by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, have become “a ray of light in the dark.”

“This is really a hope for the people who are tired of paying obviously cosmically high for housing and utility tariffs. To realize this hope, we came today for the talks, because that government did not want to do anything, and current authorities, Mr. Zelensky and the team have not yet reached this point. At least, there is no reaction from today's government to Russia's offer voiced at our meeting,” Viktor Medvedchuk said.

At a meeting, which Yuriy Boyko and Viktor Medvedchuk held in Moscow in March, the  Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller said that the company was ready to negotiate about a new contract for the supply of Russian gas directly to the Ukrainian market. In case of such an agreement, the price of gas for Ukraine may decrease by 25%. This was confirmed by Vladimir Putin.

The trip of Ukrainian politicians to Russia caused a negative reaction from the president of Ukraine, but the European Parliament supported the initiative. The General Prosecutor’s Office even opened a series of criminal proceedings. In addition, direct flights from Ukraine to Russia were forbidden.
