Viktor Medvedchuk, the Head of the Political Council of the “Opposition platform – For life” reported that 51% of Ukrainians support the provision of autonomy as part of Ukraine to Donbas (28% are sure they will support and 23% would rather support), according to the survey held by Kyiv International Sociology Institute on February 28- March 11, 2019 and its question “Would you support the provision of the autonomy as part of Ukraine to uncontrolled territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions if it is the condition for the stop of combat actions and peaceful settlement of the Donbas Conflict.
24% of Ukrainians do not support such idea (15,2% are sure they will not support and 8,8% would not rather support).
“Thus, the number of people, who stand for the provision of the autonomy to Donbas as part of Ukraine is twice more than the opposition. The Ukrainian people showed that it is wiser than authority and politicians from “war party”, who urge for the forceful scenario of the settlement of Donbas Conflict,” the message said.
Medvedchuk also noted that attitude of the common citizens of Ukraine is the best support of the peace plan on settlement of Donbas Conflict proposed by “Opposition platform – For life”.
“The results of this survey show that the authority could not achieve the stop of the fight for peace in Donbas, which we are holding neither by political repressions nor opening of criminal cases, threats. Our peace plan was perceived by people and the number of our supporters is twice larger than the number of our opposition. It means that the peace plan can be implemented. Ukraine will return to Donbas and Donbas to Ukraine,” he said.
Earlier Medvedchuk said that current authorities are not interested in returning people from Donbas today because they will never vote for it at the presidential and parliamentarian elections.
