Presidents of France and Russia, Emmanuel Macron and Vladimir Putin expressed readiness to activate the work in the Normandy format. The respective message appeared on the website of the head of the Russian state on July 18.
Putin and Macron looked into the prospects to solve the ongoing Donbas conflict.
Previously, Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky offered Putin to negotiate the situation in Donbas; he proposed to gather in Minsk, involving the representatives of the U.S., France and the UK. Besides, Zelensky insisted that Ukraine would not refuse from any sort of diplomatic formats of solving the conflict.
Russia supports the extension of Normandy format (Ukraine, France, Russia, Germany); it is ready to discuss this issue after the parliamentary election in Ukraine. The U.S. stands against the extension.
