President of France Emmanuel Macron confirmed the intention to hold the Normandy Format meeting soon during the phone talk with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky as the President’s Office reported.
“Emmanuel Macron confirmed the intentions to hold the meeting in Normandy Format soon,” the message said.
It is noted that the head of the states talked for an hour and a half.
Zelensky and Macron discussed the results of the G7 summit, which took place on August 24-26 in Biarritz, France.
“The Head of State welcomed the position of the summit participants toward the impossibility of Russia’s return to this international platform within the war in Donbas and Russian occupation of Crimea. The Ukrainian President expressed concern over the recent discussion by the Presidents of France and the U.S. of the intentions to invite Russia to the next G7 Summit in the U.S. in 2020,” the message said.
Volodymyr Zelensky also spoke about the security situation in Donbas.
Earlier President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky talked on the phone with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The leaders of the states agreed to arrange the Normandy format meeting in the near future. It is also known that on September 2, a preparatory meeting of diplomatic advisers to the heads of state will take place.
Besides, Zelensky held a meeting with U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton during which the American official confirmed the readiness of the U.S. to participate in the negotiations in Normandy Format.
