German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas believes that the time for another round of talks in the Normandy format at the level of Foreign Ministers has come. He stated this during a press conference following talks with his Ukrainian counterpart Dmitry Kuleba, as Deutsche Welle reports.
"Finally, we want to make significant progress on humanitarian and security issues, such as demining, the disengage of forces and the exchange of prisoners, but also on political aspects, in particular the implementation of the Steinmeier Formula," Maas said.
According to him, Moscow's readiness to influence the separatists in eastern Ukraine is necessary to stabilize the ceasefire.
Dmitry Kuleba also supported the idea of resuming work in the Normandy format at the ministerial level.
"Ukraine's position is very simple ... it is impossible to allow this process to stagnate, it is impossible for Russia to block the Normandy format," Kuleba stressed.
He noted that he was ready to discuss political and security issues with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, but only in this format - with the mediation of the Germans and the French.
As it was reported earlier, President of France Emmanuel Macron has reached an agreement with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and Russia’s President Vladimir Putin on the Normandy Format talks at the level of the foreign ministers.
The Kremlin confirmed information that the member countries of the Normandy Four are negotiating on the meeting on the level of foreign ministers. However, there is no certain date for this event yet.
