President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has threatened the Russian Federation with retaliatory measures in case of an increase of the price of gas. He stated this at a meeting in Minsk, the press service of the country's leader said.
"I was mostly surprised by the statements of my friend Medvedev. By the way, they already began to frighten us that we will buy natural gas at European prices, like you will pay not $ 150, but $ 200. That is a hint to everyone - in Russia first and foremost in Belarus - that we are a kind of freeloaders for Russia: here, you see, they are doing us some kind of gift. I also do not want to go into details, but Medvedev must understand that if we pay European prices, then for some reason he will have to pay too. And the price will be incredibly higher than the price of natural gas," Lukashenko said.
At the same time, Lukashenko clearly indicated what Belarus wants exactly in the issue of settling oil and gas relations. "I will say very briefly and clearly what we do want: we do not want any low prices for gas, we need the leadership of fraternal Russia to fulfill its obligations, in content and in spirit. If we build our union, a single state, we intended to build, then our people and businesses should have equal conditions in this market. We all do not want anything else. If someone there think that he can constantly kneel us, this will not happen, " he stressed.
