President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said yesterday that the Russian leadership is not ready for the formation of the Union State. This he told in an interview to Mir channel, published on the official website of the President of Belarus.
"We have done a lot in this direction," Alexander Lukashenko commented on the 20th anniversary of the formation of Union State of Russia and Belarus.
"Probably, there is no situation that would push us to take steps to form all elements of the Union State - the general constitution, the common currency (this does not mean that the Belarusian or Russian ruble, no, we can create any other currency). general bodies of government, parliamentary dimension, higher authorities and so on and so on ... But then we slid down in these negotiations to the Eurasian Economic Community. Well, okay, it seemed nice, but then Ukraine generally withdrew from this process," said the Belarusian President.
"So now, at this stage (and I just said: one time we will return to this issue, the formation of a real Union State), we are not ready for this today, and not only Belarusians, but mostly I am talking about Russians, the Russian leadership," he noted.
