President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko announced the arrest of Mikalay Autukhovich’s “terrorist group”, which was transporting “tons of weapons” through Ukraine. Lukashenko said this during a visit to the City Children’s Infectious Diseases Clinical Hospital of Minsk, BelTA reports.
According to him, this group of people was preparing terrorist attacks throughout the country.
"Recently we detained Autukhovich’s group. Now we have opened all their channels. They were carrying tons of weapons through Ukraine … They were preparing terrorist attacks all over the country and have already begun to carry out them. That’s where they got burned. The Chekists and the police carried out this operation. Well, just great! Glory! God, that they detained," he said.
It should be noted that Mikalay Autukhovich is one of the brightest figures in the social and political life of Belarus over the past decades. In the early 2000s, he ran for the Belarusian parliament.
Later he was accused of preparing an attempt on the life of the Deputy Minister of Taxes and the head of the Grodno Regional Executive Committee. He spent over 5 years in prison.
In early December 2020, he, along with a group of friends, was accused of creating a “terrorist group” operating in the Grodno region, setting fire to cars and houses of law enforcement officers.
As we reported earlier, the European Union has approved the third package of sanctions aiming against the regime of self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.
