Local elections took place in Moldova, overall turnout made 41.6 percent

Local elections are over in Moldova; the polling stations closed at 9 p.m. Sunday. The citizens elected city mayors, heads of rural and town councils and their counselors, Sputnik Moldova reported.   

898 mayors and over 11,500 counselors will serve for four years.

The overall turnout of voters made 41.68 percent, which is roughly 1.1 million people.

According to the Moldovan outlet, 1,600 national and 145 international observers monitored the course of elections. By Monday midnight, more than half of the ballots were processed.

Earlier, Prime Minister of Moldova Maia Sandu said if Moldova does not get Russian gas due to termination of Russian-Ukraine contract on transit, Chișinău is ready to purchase reverse gas from Kyiv.
